THE STORY OF PUNK ROCK IN THE 60S (Pt. 17) by Greg Shaw At the very same time, The Monkees were launched to huge success, bringing fans as young as five and six into the rock audience. At the other end of the spectrum, Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd were working on their debut efforts. This rocking generation now included folks in their late twenties and even in their thirties (in bands such as The Charlatans, The Mystery Trend, and The Blues Project). Some were veterans of the beat and folk movements igniting new music scenes in San Francisco, London, New Yorks East Village, Boston, and a few other places. This crew preferred a more sophisticated, often drug-influenced and poetic approach that reflected their own culture. It wasnt just teenage music anymore - the rock audience now spanned some 30 years.
