THE STRENTGTH OF IKORODU DIVISION IN ITS AGITATION FOR THE GOVERNORSHIP SEAT At this point in the political history of Lagos State, the Ikorodu Division has justifiable grounds to present the next governor of the state. By any stretch of human imagination the Division has all it takes to harness its abundant human resource and present credible and qualified aspirants amongst whom a governorship can be picked for the 2015 Governorship election. • The Divison has a population of 535,619, going by the figures declared by the National Population Commission for the 2006 Census. Though the figure falls far below the true figures of inhabitants of the Division, it nevertheless makes Ikorodu Division one of the most populous areas in Lagos State – bigger than all of the five Local Government Areas in the Central Senatorial District; second to Kosofe in the East Senatorial District and fifth in ranking altogether to Alimosho, Ajeromi and Mushin Local Government Areas in West Senatorial District. • With membership strength of 78,748, Ikorodu Division is 5th Local Government with the highest number of registered party members • With benefit of hindsight, it is noteworthy that prominent sons of Ikorodu – the late Otunba T.O.S Benson and the late Otunba Adeniran Ogunsanya were in the forefront of the agitation for the creation of Lagos State and played prominent roles to actualize that dream. That is not all; they also used their influence as public office holders to bring development to Ikorodu. • It is also instructive to note that Ikorodu Division is still endowed with highly educated and competent professionals in different fields of human endeavours and with the requisite experience to boot which places them in good stead as indigenous candidates that can be presented to contest the governorship election with a high profile befitting the holder of the office.
