THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God - Ephesians 6:17. Many of us Christians are living in frustration because the things we want to do, we cannot do and the things we dont want to do, we find ourselves doing. The more we want to live for God in righteousness, the more we find ourselves plunged in sinful lifestyles. We ask ourselves, why is it so? When you look at this Scripture, it speaks of the sword of the Spirit. The prelude to the Scripture also speaks of putting on the whole armour of God. Why? Simple answer is because the Christian is in a constant battle. An armour is used for either defense or attack in battle. One of such battles is the enemy trying to steal the righteousness Christ has imputed to us. Fortunately for us, we have His Spirit to enforce the status of righteousness Christ gave us. However, some of us seem to be losing that battle and falling in sin because we have disarmed the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit needs His sword to win that battle and help us remain righteous. His sword is the Word of God as the Scripture says. Question is, how many times do we read the Word of God, let alone study it. Do we make time for the Word? That is why most of us have been losing the battle against sin, because we have no sword to fight with. It is however never too late for us. We must begin to feed our Spirit with the Word of God. This will always give us victory over sin and ensure a joyful life of righteousness.
