THE TRIALS AND TRAVAILS OF TRUTH,EQUITY AND JUSTICE. These are indeed hard times for truth,equity and justice in the politics of Akwa Ibom State.They have been seriously attacked by some desperate politicians and their agents who are pursuing their inordinate political ambitions against clear-cut rules of the party,popular opinion and demand and wise counsel. Before I proceed,let me say the obvious.Truth,equity and justice demands that come 2015,the governorship of Akwa Ibom State must shift to Eket Senatorial District,the only section yet to produce any governor of the state since its creation some 25 years ago,but they are the one sustaining the state economically. The founding fathers and framers of the constitution of our party had envisioned a situation where power would rotate among all the sections at all levels without rancor,tension and crisis.That must have informed their decision to make zoning and rotation of party and public elective offices an enforceable policy or clause in the party constitution and since the advent of this republic in 1999,it has been instrumental to the emergence of all the party and public elective officers.In other words,there is no electoral constituency at any level without a clear-cut zoning and power rotation arrangement and consequently,every party and public elective office holder is a product and child of the zoning and rotation principle. The zoning and rotation principle is so entrenched in our democratic culture that nobody could ever dream of aspiring for any political office without considering the zoning and power sharing and rotation arrangement of the place.In other words,if the zoning arrangement does not favor you,you dare not aspire and am yet to see any person that contested an election against the zoning and rotation of his place and succeeded.I stand to be corrected. At the governorship level,it is on record that on the return of democracy in 1999,power was ceded to Uyo senatorial district to complete the tenure of the late Obong Akpan Isemin in the defunct third republic which was truncated by the military coupists and Obong Victor Attah of Uyo senatorial district emerged as the consensus candidate of the party.There was nothing like an open primaries as some people have been insinuating and Uyo senatorial district through him had two successful terms of eight years. It is also on record that in line with the zoning policy of the party,Obong Attah had assembled the entire state at the Ibom Hall,Uyo,and pronounced power shift to Ikot Ekpene senatorial district where the incumbent hails from and Ikot Ekpene senatorial district through him has also had two terms. From the foregoing,it is common sense,natural and clear that our brothers in Eket senatorial district shall take their turn in 2015 to produce the next executive governor of the state. But regrettably and ironically,this has been fiercely and ferociously opposed by some hawks who feel they can manipulate and rob the people of Eket senatorial district of their turn. These desperate hawks have been sponsoring series of attacks on the zoning and power rotation policy of our party,notwithstanding the fact that themselves,they are products and beneficiaries of the system. In their desperation to rubbish,discredit,undermine and supplant the system,they have told so many believable and unbelievable lies.Truth,equity and justice have suffered so much attacks by these hawks. The other day,a serving senator who is suppossed to be well-vested in the party constitution and who contested,campaigned and got elected in 2011 on the zoning principle brazenly argued that there is no zoning clause in the PDP constitution.It is not that he is not aware of the provisions of Article7.2.c.of the party constitution.He only set out to confuse,confound and mislead his preys. Some would say that there has never been a time the party met and zoned the governorship ticket to any particular section of the state and as such the 2015 ticket cannot be zoned.But there are clear records that the party leadership has been zoning the ticket to particular sections of the state and only people from that senatorial district contested the election and all the governorship elections in the state were contested by people from all the sections of the state.But candidates from the preferred zone always emerge at the end of the day At least,there are documentary evidence that the party leadership under Hon.Prince Uwem Ita Etuk had in 2009 unanimously resolved to zone the 2011 ticket to Ikot Ekpene senatorial district to allow them do two terms as Uyo senatorial district did and also zoned the 2015 ticket to Eket senatorial district and till date none of the attendees of the State Working Committee meeting of 15th September,2009,has come out to refute this fact. They have fabricated so much stories and done evil manipulations to suppress and undermine truth,equity and justice.But unfortunately for them,Akwa Ibom people are too enlightened for them to fool and cajole.They know the truth and what is just and equitable. But it is certain that truth,equity and justice,no matter the machinations of these hawks,shall prevail in the final analysis and power shall shift to the good people of Eket senatorial district in 2015. So the campaign against truth,equity and justice waged by these hawks shall collapse like a pack of cards at appropriate time.
