THE TRIBES OF THE OMO (PHOTOS OF HANS SYLVESTER) On the borders of Ethiopia, to centuries of modernity, Hans Sylvester photographed for six years tribes where men, women, children, old people, are geniuses of ancestral art. At their feet, the river Omo, riding on a triangle Ethiopia-Sudan-Kenya, the Great Rift Valley which separates slowly from Africa, a volcanic area that provides a huge palette of pigments, ochre red, kaolin white, green copper, yellow light or grey ash. They have the genius of painting, and their bodies of two meters high is a huge canvas. The strength of their art takes in three words: fingers, speed and freedom.
