THE TUSKEGEE EXPERIMENT (Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male): For 40 years (1932- 1972) the U.S. Public Health Service injected Syphilis into Black Men who believed they were receiving free health care JUST SO THE SCIENTISTS COULD SEE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN. Just a few salient points: (Some of the effects of Syphilis and what these Men were forced to suffer through) If left untreated, syphilis can eventually cause damage to the brain, nerves, eyes, heart, blood vessels, liver, bones, and joints. In extreme cases it can cause difficulty coordinating muscle movements, paralysis, numbness, gradual blindness, mental illness, and even death. If you have syphilis and are pregnant, it can cause serious birth defects and stillbirth. The drug Penicillin (created in the 1940s) was INTENTIONALLY WITHHELD FROM ANY SURVIVORS until after 1972!
