THE UNFAMILIAR PATH Friday 8th November 2013 The problem is, we so often confuse the Bibles teaching of God is love with our sentimental chocolate box understanding of God is soft-centred. The love of God isnt like gooey caramel. The love of God is sometimes hard, like nails driven into a wooden cross. So when we find ourselves in trying times, God doesnt always lift us out of them on a sweet-scented breeze. Sometimes, out of love, God lets us endure pain, in order that we might face our greatest fears. Paul puts it better in Romans 2:4 (NCV): He has been very kind and patient, waiting for you to change, but you think nothing of His kindness. Perhaps you do not understand that God is kind to you so you will change your hearts and lives. To be a Christian means to want to be like Christ. Jesus didnt run away from pain. Whenever were tempted to, we should work out why first. Sometimes, God allows us pain as part of our glory-growth and character cultivating. Sometimes, God allowing us to go through pain is the most loving thing He could have done. So what now? Know when youre waiting to get to sleep at night and cant stop mulling over the day? Tonight, think back to what you were like before you met God. Think about how God has brought change in your life and character. Be encouraged the path ahead might be unfamiliar, but its the same God leading you along.
