THE VALUE QUESTION - Temi Odejide Gareth Bale was sold to Real Madrid for £85.4m. Is he worth it? Marouane Fellanini was bought by Manchester United for £27.5m. Is he worth it? Chelsea bought William for £30m and Andre Schurrie for £18m. Are they worth it? I could go on. Arsene Wenger known for his extreme reluctance to spend heavy in the transfer markets broke his norms and bought Mesut Ozil for £42.4m. Arsene Wenger is a purist who believes that the price tags on most players today are simply unjustifiable. He does not believe that they are worth it. This raises the value question. How do you define value? The dictionary says value is the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth, or usefulness of something; the material or monetary worth of something; the worth of something compared to the price paid or asked for it. Value on the part of the buyer is defined by how much he is willing to part with for the thing and that willingness is defined by his perception of the worth of that thing to him. Value on the part of the seller is defined by what it cost him to come by the thing and his estimation of the worth of the need it meets or the problems it solves. In finance equations: money follows value. The more valuable an item, the more people are willing to part with for it. Too many people chase money instead of value. Increase value and increased finance will follow you. Think about this in the context of Matthew 6:33 ‘Seek you first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness (True Value) and all these things shall be added unto you’ Make a commitment to increase value, to add value and to be valuable to and for the kingdom.
