THE VINCE DAILY- TODAYS DEVOTION TOPIC: MEDITATION IS NOT THINKING 6/3/2014 BY UNEGBU VINCENT In eastern and western nations, even children knew the difference between meditation and thinking. But among African Christians, the two as used as same. Many Christian are used to think over a bible verse and at the end they will say that they meditated on it. Well, the truth is that such people have no intention to lie but they are ignorant. Thinking takes place as reason while meditation takes place on a higher plane above reason or in absence of reason. Thinking breeds confusion. Thinking at some point may generate stress while at no point can meditation do such rather it will diminish stress to the possible minimal. Meditation improves well being but thinking dont. Meditation is a spiritual tool for gathering truth but thinking is a mere mental tool for logical reasoning. The next question in someones mind is how do we meditate? The 1st step towards meditation is letting go all ill emotion- empty thy self! This 1st step may actually take an honest person a relatively long time to accomplish. The next is take any position you chose but sitting is always better while lying in bed is not an option. When you take your position, absolutely empty your mind. When your are perfect in keeping your mind empty for some minutes per day for few weeks, you can then start selecting objects of meditation e.g Love, Serenity, peace or any Bible verse etc. If you perfect the steps, during that calm moment of meditation, you will be getting some explanatory impulse[deeper understanding] on the subject of your meditation that you cant really explain with words[ untill you rise a bit higher] but it will always mainfest in your behavior and will be in you as a deeper understanding of the subject. While concentration is the step towards material success, mediation is towards spiritual success but never thinking. Meditation cant actually be defined as Godly or evil but your own very nature and that of the topic you chose is what makes it either Godly or evil. Meditation is life its self for Tibetan and Christian monks and non. Meditation has a calming effect and directs awareness inward until pure awareness is achieved, described as being awake inside without being aware of anything except awareness itself. There are many techniques involved in meditation but some saints like Ignatius of Loyola and Teresa of Avila in the 16th century nullify the use of any techniques in Christian meditation. A strong believer in Christian meditation, Saint Padre Pio stated: Through the study of books one seeks God; by meditation one finds him. In recent time Meditation has entered the mainstream of health care as a method of stress and pain reduction. As a method of stress reduction, meditation has been used in hospitals in cases of chronic or terminal illness to reduce complications associated with increased stress that include depressed immune systems. In essence, meditation is very important for your spiritual, bodily, emotional and mental well-being and its far different from thinking. You can venture into it today as a Christian and understand God and yourself better... Stay BLESSED!
