THE VITAL TRUTH There is no abstract or ideal truth. Truth cannot be mentalised. The truth of philosophers is not the truth. If it were, the whole world would be well and truly free by now. Truth is a living, vital thing. And the nearest living, vital thing you can know and feel at any moment is you. You are the living truth. You are the truth - living in your body as truly and honestly as you can. The fact that you sometimes feel a failure or see that you have failed, is beside the point. You are doing the best you can. Nevertheless, the truth in you is not complete yet. That is one reason why you are reading this. You want to grow in truth, to grow in knowledge of yourself, into your true nature. As you have never known an end to yourself, there is no end to truth. But there is a beginning. And this is the point. That beginning is not when you are born. Being born is not the beginning of life. Being born is merely the beginning of living. Im just living, this is not life. How often have you said that, or felt it? By living you have to bring yourself to life. That is the purpose of living. And the beginning of truth or life - the much quoted moment of truth - is when you realise with unshakeable knowledge, for all time, that you are immortal life. Only then do you begin. Before that moment you and everyone living are caught up in the herdal fear of death, obsessed by the need to survive - physically, in fearing the death of the body; emotionally, in fearing the loss of people and things you love or are attached to; and mentally, in the fear of loss and the continual need to defend and reaffirm your beliefs and opinions, even to yourself. The unhappy, competing, warring world and all its institutions are built on this fear of death. With the realisation that you are forever, all the fears and props go. That is the truth.
