THE VOICE - Last year I had an opportunity to meet a young singer songwriter from Philly. My regular guitar player, Tom Hampton, was on tour and I needed someone to fill in for him to play a show with Liz Longley at the Sellersville Theater. I called Kevin Hanson to see if he could do it, but he was booked that night, but he referred a young guy to me by the name of Matt McAndrew. And as is it turned out, Matt was available. He was about to graduate from the University of the Arts. He came over to the house to rehearse with the band and I liked him immediately, just a charming kid with a great voice and a good guitar player to boot. And such a positive attitude. So I was all set for the Sellersville Show, but as it turned out, Liz Longley ended up getting sick and the show was canceled. So I never got a chance to play with Matt, but I sent him half of what the gig was going to pay because I always feel like thats the right thing to do. I do that because otherwise, guys might have gotten an opportunity to play another show that night and this way they at least come away with something. He was very appreciative and we talked about playing some future shows together. When he graduated, I went to his graduate recital in Philly and it was phenomenal. It was like a rock show and not a recital. He had stage presence and a star quality that shined through and I remember thinking that this kid had a very bright future ahead of him. I guess I was right. Matt will be seen tonight on NBCs The Voice, in the live performance portion of the competition. Anyone who has been watching will know who he is, but for those of you tuning in for the first time, youre in for a treat. Hes excellent. And when it comes time to vote, as you do for this show, vote for Matt. Ive kept in touch with him since we met the first time via Facebook and Im proud of what hes accomplished. Not to mention just what a great guy he is. So if you are so inclined to do that sort of thing, that voting for people on The Voice, I know once you see Matt, there wont be any question who to vote for, but I just wanted to give you a heads up to watch for him. Man, I love it when good things happen to nice people.
