THE WARRIOR THAT KEEPS ON GIVING-USAF Christi Tedder-Cook I was in service from 88-92 in the Air Force. I served in Desert Shield/Storm as an intelligence analyst. I spent a year in Seoul, South Korea as a North Korean Political/Economic/Nuclear Analyst and later served in the Michigan and Idaho Army National Guards, again as an intelligence analyst from 99-02. I taught foreign weapon systems, counter- and anti-terrorism tactics, realtime analysis and briefings to commanders. I worked mostly with the C-130 crews out of Pope AFB, NC. I was given the Air Force Commendation Medal, Military Airlift Command Intelligence Airman of the Year and the John L. Levitow Honor Graduate award from Airman Leadership school. In Korea, I was nominated for a STEP promotion, awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal. In the Army I received two Army Achievement Medals. I am classified as 70% disabled since I am rated for PTSD, migraines and traumatic arthritis. I started my career as a Hebrew Linguist in Monterey, CA at the Defense Language Institute, but ended up in Intelligence instead. I loved every last bit, that I did and had some great pilots and Marines that taught me a great deal along the way. I now use the Heroes Harvest Farm to help other veterans overcome their medical/mental issues and help them learn farming/agricultural practices that can enable them to have a job or a bit of tranquility in their lives. I call it agri-therapy. It is a small farm dealing in calves, beef cattle, chickens for eggs and meat and vegetable growing/gardening. The website is heroesharvestfarm.blogspot/ I also do public speaking engagements about veterans in agriculture and am a member of the Farmer Veteran Coalition and Growing Warriors. Oddly, I knew from the age of about 5, that I wanted to join the Air Force. In fact, I joined the Civil Air Patrol at the now defunct Wurtsmith AFB in Oscoda, MIichigan, when I was 16 and was sworn in at an airshow there by the commander of the AF Thunderbirds. I am a panel member with Michigan State University this weekend at a conference in Marshall, MI. I am presenting information about veterans in agriculture. Also, I will be a speaker the 24th at the Northern Michigan Small Farms Conference on the same issue. I use my Heroes Harvest Farm to teach other vets agriculture/farming practices so that they can either become a farmer/farm manager, help them in medical/mental recovery issues and help the community and its veterans. ~ Christi Tedder-Cook, USAF Veteran heroesharvestfarm.org We are very grateful to Christi for sharing these photos and her story.
