THE WEEKEND REQUIRES YOU TO DRINK HERE. PLUS YOU’LL WIN A $400 CANAPES AND MOET PACKAGE. POSITIVE THINKING. You can almost tick-off the first full month of 2015. In fact, you look like you could use a burger, some beer or cocktails, and maybe a few games of pool. Oh, look; it’s a place with burgers, cocktails, beer, pool and… a competition that could win you and your friends a $400 canapés and Magnum of Moet from their functions package. Bonus. Give a firm handshake to a joint you all know and love, The Dolphin Hotel. And if you you’re not familiar – it’s time to change that little over-sight. With their new menu where the seafood spaghetti is made with fresh local seafood in Pernod infused broth and the crackling pork belly is actually moistso tender and juicy, crowned by super crunchy crackles – its ready and awaiting your exclusive review. What you need to know: The Space: Built way back in 1934, the Dolphin Hotel has two public bars, one cocktail bar, bistro, TAB area, two outdoor courtyards, a covered outdoor dining area, five private and semi-private function spaces all spanning over four levels. It ticks off all the amenities every modern sports bar should have, starting with the 15-large flat screens throughout the Hotel including a giant screen, which can be viewed from both the ground and mezzanine levels. No matter where you’re standing in the Hotel you’ll be able to see a TV screen. So, you shouldn’t have to squint. This is that rarest type of bar: somewhere you could bring a date, watch the sport and survive for a second one. The Secret Burger: The Dolphin secret burger doesn’t appear on the menu, but those in the know (that would be you) can order it by name. The Secret Burger or more specifically named Deuce-Deuce Burger is a double patty cheeseburger with bacon and fried chicken, doused in slaw, jalapenos and a mustard barbecue sauce served on a brioche bun. The Steaks: Only the best suppliers are used to source premium cuts of the highest quality meat for their 200g, 300g and 400g steak selections. All steaks are MSA graded and come accompanied by watercress and roast vine tomato, choice of Aus Jus, Creamy Mushroom, Pepper Brandy, Chimmi Churri, Mojo Verde or Café De Paris Sauce and either potato gratin, duck fat potato or black garlic mash. Definitely dude food. The Drinks: Firstly, you’ll find the cocktail list includes their special promotion for weekly Happy Hour $9 cocktails between 12noon-5pm on Friday’s and Saturdays. After that it reverts back to you old favourites for $14 including a Mai Tai, Espresso Martini, Maragrita and the Gin Blush which mixes the Dolphins pungent kick of gin, Paraiso, Licor 43, ruby grapefruit and Lime. There’s also an extensive wine list of over 75 wines, a range of craft beer by the bottle, local and imported tap beer and basic to top shelf spirits. The Menu: The kitchen caters for a range of tastes and budgets. The $12 lunch special menu is perfect for anyone looking for quick and tasty sustenance whether during the workday or before walking over to catch a game at the SCG or ALLIANZ Stadium. For those looking for something beyond the average pub grub, there’s a new section on the menu called “Fancy” featuring impressive Seafood Spaghetti, the Seared Lamb Rack, Crispy Pork Belly and Baked Baby Barramundi. Prices for the Fancy items range from $20 to $27. More casual menu items including burgers, pulled beef nacho, spicy buffalo wings and BBQ duck spring rolls are less than $20. The kids are also not forgotten with a $10 Ankle Biters range, which comes with an ice cream dessert.
