THE WHAT Long before Atlanta’s film boom, industry - TopicsExpress

THE WHAT Long before Atlanta’s film boom, industry professionals new to the city, as well as long-established Atliens, have asked where do filmmakers hangout on the regular. They understood the secret that’s never been a secret. Where there’s industry concentration, there’s usually a bar or two where like-minded folks congregate. It’s over drinks you can find jobs, get the latest updates, learn unofficial news before it becomes news, and make the kind of connections that create opportunities and lead to collaboration. Sounds cool right? Well, Atlanta’s sprawl has made it difficult for any one location to develop as a goto spot. There is one ingredient that makes these places to hangout most successful. They’re casual. They’re places to decompress, have fun, and relax. They’re spaces to make and meet friends first and foremost. Film Bar Mondays is the answer to the no film bar dilemma. Each Monday of the month, The Independent, Joystick Gamebar, Argosy and Laseter’s Tavern, depending on the week, will be the spot to connect with other filmmakers, relax, and hopefully enjoy a respite from Atlanta’s accursed traffic. THREE FBM RULES 1. No Business Cards 2. No Headshots 3. No Desperation Film Bar Mondays is not another networking event, it’s about connecting and creating community. We’re not saying you shouldn’t bring business cards, you should bring them. We ARE saying that if you spend more time talking about the film business, and grilling people, than debating if the Braves will win another title, debating which craft beers are the best, or discussing why you hate cleaning your gutters, you’re at FBM for the wrong reasons. A stack of headshots is going to assure you never get a job. Enjoy yourself. Leave the hard sell at home. Get to know folks. The jobs and information will flow naturally. In other words, don’t force it. Film Bar Mondays always start at 6pm. The 8pm is an unofficial end time. Feel free to stay, or still come and hangout. Check the websites for the bars’ regular events and stay for trivia, poker and more. YES! The schedule is the same every month. The Independent will always be the first monday, Laseter’s will always be the fourth monday. So let’s get to it! thanks for helping launch FBM: Y’allywood Film Festival Mike Morgan Stina DeVallescar Ryan Felton Andrew Alonso DJ Jen Chris Tsambis Lara Leigh Stevenson Danielle Robarage Rusk Film Bar Mondays concept: Charles Judson (please feel free to steal for other cities, credit to the original FBM is all we ask) IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT PROMOTIONAL POSTS TO THE GROUP We want to keep this group as open as possible. If youre going to promote an event or group, all we ask is that you make 3 non-promotional posts for every 1 promotional post. Share a Weird Al video, a link to a relevant Hollywood Reporter article and an event happening at one of the FBM bars as examples, and feel free to post something promotional. We also ask that you only make one promotional post per week. So simply 3 non-promotional posts for every 1 promotional post per week. This should keep FBM moderators from having to play police, allow members to still share and promote what theyve got going on, and hopefuly make this a fun place to hangout and virtually connect.
