THE WIDENING GAP Excerpt from a brief conversation earlier this week with my visitor from Hungary, David, who is 23. I think it arose out of a conversation about skiing, which in my head led to Sonny Bonos demise and California connection. Me: You know who Sonny & Cher were? David: No. Me: Oh--well, you know who Cher is? David: Isnt she some old lady who used to sing? Needless to say, the conversation ended right there.
