THE WORD ( Devotional publication of Journalists for Christ International Outreach) July 22 - 28, 2013. Is the Lord your shepherd? One of the most popular chapters of the Bible is Psalm 23. Most Christians young and old recite the chapter regularly, especially verse six. When we recite this chapter, we all claim that the Lord is our shepherd. However, if many of our actions and inactions are anything to go by, it doesn’t seem that the Lord is truly our shepherd. If the Lord is indeed our shepherd and we are the sheep of His pasture, we will be completely dependent on His leading in everything we do. If we trust the Lord who knows the end from the beginning to be our shepherd, we will not trust in our own understanding and will always be contented knowing that He is not slow as we think when things are not moving as fast as we want. In carrying out our sensitive tasks as journalists, Psalm 23 reminds us of the need to allow God to guide us in deciding what we publish or broadcast. While our colleagues who are yet to give their lives to Christ as their lord and saviour trust in their skills and professional techniques, we must trust in the name of our God who is the author and finisher of our faith. We must be conscious of the fact that we are what we are by the grace of God. We must never forget that whatever we accomplish is not by power, nor by might but by the spirit says the Lord. We must always commit your work to God and the power of His might. We must pray fervently about every assignment and ask for wisdom and understanding. The only way you will not miss your way in the profession and take wrong decisions is when we obediently follow the Lord’s leading. Before you write your next story ask the Lord. Before you decide to move to another media organization ask the Lord. For us to confidently claim that ‘’ I shall not want. I shall not fear any evil’’, and expect goodness and mercy to follow us in our personal and professional endeavours, the Lord must be our shepherd. Lekan Otufodunrin President.
