THE WORTH OF THECROSS “For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.” (Col.1:19,20) The general body of mankind share a common characteristic quite apart from skin colour, nationality, ethnicity, or cultural background. We are a diverse race of beings. Culturally we vary from the nomads of Mongolia to the Maori of the outback to the denizens of Los Angeles. As well, religiously the spectrum is quite broad, encompassing everything from the spiritism of the bush people to Buddhism , Islam, Judaism and Christianity to name a few. Yet, there is one non-material trait that is common to all. The Word of God speaks of this trait in a terse yet accurate manner. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Rom.3:23) The little word ‘all’ is what perturbs some. Yes, definitely the drunkards ,drug addicts and the like, but not us respectable folk. But the honest among us admit just how poignant is the saying, “But for the grace of God, there go I.” The inevitable result of our sin is separation from God. God Himself dealt with that situation by providing a once-for-all sacrifice for sin in the person of His Son Jesus Christ. He took on human flesh for the express purpose of laying down His life to redeem us to God. For nothing good have I, whereby Thy grace to claim, I’ll wash my garments white, in the blood of Calvary’s Lamb. Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe, Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.
