THE YEAR IN RETROSPECT 2014 has been a challenging yet fruitful year for the MOVEMENT FOR DEMOCRATIC CHANGE with special reference to its South Africa external assembly. This year saw the MDC rebrand itself and return to its founding values as approved by the Inaugural Congress of the MDC held at Chitungwiza in January 2000.After suffering serious strategic failures, there was a need to take corrective measures to improve the brand and bring back the hopes of the people after the disappointing and shocking graft of 31 July 2013. 2014 started after the backdrop of many like-minded democrats grouping together to consolidate the need for the party to return to its core values and principles! The year started soon after the successful FREE ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS CAMPAIGN(Last Maingehama,Yvonne Musarurwa and Ishmael Kauzani) which was an overwhelming success as Mugabes government felt the heat and released them.Cadres continued to meet as the need to RENEW the party grew. The need to return to constitutionalism led to the Mendel Meeting of the MDC National Council where by overwhelming majority it was endorsed to suspend Morgan Tsvangirai,Nelson Chamisa,Lovemore Moyo,Morgan Komichi among other Standing Committee members for fanning factionalsim, dictatorial tendencies, misappropriation of funds and bringing the name of the party into disrepute(Breaching Annexure A).The rebels led by Morgan Tsvangirai went on to disregard the provisions and decisions of the National Council by running parallel structures under the name MDC Tsvangirai thereby disqualifying themselves as fit and proper patriots, without decency, credibility and authority as witnessed in their botched attempt to recall legitimately elected MPs from Parliament who were not aligned to their Zanu pf like style of governance! In following suit and keeping with the Constitution, well adviced and guided by the Secretary Generals office(Hon Tendai Laxton Biti),cadres in South Africa suspended all transgressing and undemocratic leaders in the South African assembly! Of note were the suspensions of the following *Shelton Tapiwa Chiyangwa *Butholezwe Nyathi *Giyane Dube *Chief Larry Ndlovu *Lovemore Chikandiwa *Malio Makhado *Cephas Mhofu And the whole Provincial Executive for fanning factionalism, tribalism, unconstitutionalism and misappropriation of funds(Breach of Annexure A). We then set up an Interim Provincial Executive as per quorum of all districts being represented. The meeting resolved that Ulete Juma be the Interim Chairman along with other leaders in the new executive that included staunch renewal luminaries like Maj Gen Elphas Dzapasi,Brett Holley,Innocent Jeke,Godknows Hungwe,Vengai Mashinga and placed the Womens Assembly in the capable hands of the MaNgwenya sisters while the eccentric and vibrant cadre Trymore Chinembiri was tasked to lead the Youth Assembly. Once the Provincial Executive was set,a robust mobilization drive across Gauteng was set up and identification of contact persons across South Africa. Branches we opened in Benoni,Kempton Park,Mpumalanga, Pretoria,Soshanguve,Mabopane,Soweto and Diepsloot as MDC Team Renewal surchaged the movement. The Orange revolution began to take shape thanks to moral and emotional support back-up of the National Working Committee and the office of the visionary Interim President of MDC Team Renewal Amai Sekai Holland. What followed was meeting like minded organizations as we pierced the grassroots to help with bread and butter issues. This necessitated successful projects like THE FOOD PARCELS SCHEME,Voter Registration Drives and engagement of the Department of Home Affairs in regard to Zimbabweans documentation processes. Special thanks to the Workers and Socialist Party for strategic help,Refugees and Migrants Platforms,Zimbabweans in Exile,Lawyers for Human Rights among other organizations for helping the plight of Zimbabweans. We held a strategic planning and brainstorming meeting at the historic Churchsquare in Pretoria on the 27th of July where Nelson Mandela delivered his first speech after release from prison. The attendance was overwhelming and the resolutions were very progressive and logistics were put in place. August marked a month of celebrating the lives of many heroes who died for this movement. We paid respect to great warriors like Tonderai Ndira,Godfrey Kauzani,Better Chokururama,Rebecca Mafukeni and Learnmore Judah Jongwe. We endevoured to keep their spirits alive until we get to a Zimbabwe they envisaged and died for. With the Provincial Executive set and stable,we embarked on meeting all pockets of renewalists scattered across South Africa as we incorporated some into our structures. However some groups had hitches and glitches as expected as some were made up rival political executives, well known mischiefmakers, proven fraudsters and suspended members of the previous executive. As an inclusive party,we resolved to keep searching for solutions to such problems as we want to produce quality this time! We have learnt as a party that a congregation of flies will never produce honey. We have integrated all small groups into the current executive except the Walter Msununguli Mbongolwane led group that has the backing of George Mkhwananzi which has to align to the constitution and be submissive to the Interim Provincial Structure led by the peoples Chairman Ulete Juma. We also embraced the signing of the historic Memorandum of Understanding between MDC Renewal and MDC Green to lay a basis for a formidable coalition to finish Zanu pf once and for all.The iconic agreement brought together forces of change and brought hope to millions of Zimbabweans of better electoral prospects. As the year came to its zenith,we had successful AIDS Day as we came strong against discrimination and lack of support systems of people infected and affect with HIV/AIDS.We followed up with commemoration of the International Day of the Disabled! MDC membership is not based on appearances or any form of segregation! We also hosted many leaders of renewal along the way, from the NWC members,SG of the Youth Assembly Hon P Mkhwananzi,Mat South Information and Publicity Secretary Cde Ntando Ndlela,Hon Mangoma,Hon Gorden Moyo and Manicaland Provincial Chairman Cde Julius Magarangoma among others! Even in the face of massive challenges, the fight for an independant and free Zimbabwe has kept us going. The sense of unity and progress in the renewal movement is moving mountains! As we go into 2015 we anticipate massive exploits.Be part of the team that will deliver change to Zimbabwe.
