THE YEAR THAT WAS ....1975 It was a standard year at the box office-til a certain summer movie sent shock waves and changed the summer season and invented the word Block-buster. here is the top ten earners of that year. JAWS,THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW,ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOOS NEST, DOG DAY AFTERNOON,SHAMPOO, THE RETURN OF THE PINK PANTHER, FUNNY LADY, THE APPLE DUMPLING GANG, ALOHA,BOBBY AND ROSE, THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN. Jaws became the first movie to gross $100 million in the US theatrical rentals setting the standard for future blockbuster, and people were literally queuing around the block, hence the name given a blockbuster. The Rocky horror picture show a musical about a newly engaged couple who take a break in a isolated area and pay a call to the most bizarre residence of Dr Frank-N-Furter. Like Jaws the movie has lived on with many musicals based on the movie, most recently having an entire episode of the hit series Glee devote a large story line around it and featuring meat loaf. One flew over the cuckoos nest starred Jack Nicholson and has remained a firm favorite. Just sitting outside the top ten earners is Monty Pyphon and the holy grail starring John Cleese. Born this year were future talents such as Bradley cooper, Drew Barrymoore, Angelina jolie and Tony Maguire. Many actors made there on-screen debut this year, among them are Kim Cattrall in Rosebud, Christopher Lloyd in One flew over the cuckoos nest. Bill Murray in Shame of the Jungle and lastly John Trovolta in The Devils rain.
