THE ‘iParticipate’ CONFERENCE - BRINGING MIGRANTS FROM THE OUTSIDE TO THE INSIDE On Thursday 22 January, Ealing Town Hall is hosting a special media and diversity conference – iParticipate – to explore how migrants can be supported to take a greater role in society: civically, socially and politically. New Europeans volunteer journalist, Jon Danzig, is a keynote speaker at the event. iParticipate is an Europe-wide project co-funded by the European Union. The initiative aims to address low level of democratic participation of immigrants at a local level and the lack of their inclusion in public discussion and decision-making processes. The conference in Ealing – which runs from midday to the evening – will discuss how better to include migrants in our society and the barriers to that happening. Keynote speakers and panellists include: • Julian Bell, Ealing Council Leader • Sara Biagiotti, President of the Association of Municipalities of Tuscany • Zrinka Bralo, Migrant and Refugees Communities Forum • Paulo Faustino, CEPESE • Massimiliano Vrenna, researcher at the Sant’Anna School of Pisa • Professor Petros Iosifidis, Centre for International Communications & Society, City University, London • Stefania Magi, Councillor of the Municipality of Arezzo • Jon Danzig, journalist & film maker In the evening from 7pm to 9pm there will be networking event between voluntary and community groups and local political representatives, with various stalls to show-case the work of action groups. The event is open to all, but will particularly appeal to professionals, volunteers and journalists interested in greater migrant participation in society.
