THEME PARK HELPS BOXING DAY DIP GO SWIMMINGLY Oakwood Theme Park is encouraging as many people as possible to support this year Tenby Boxing Day Swim. The Narberth attraction is one of the hugely popular event’s main sponsors and Park Director Clare Stansfield is urging as many people as possible to get involved. Now in its 44th year, and organised by the Tenby Sea Swimming Association (TSSA), the Tenby Boxing Day Swim attracts hundreds of entrants and huge crowds of spectators. “We’re delighted to be sponsoring the swim as it is an amazing event which raises lots of money for local charities,” said Clare. “It’s also an incredibly social event and a great way to start working off some of that Christmas Dinner! “As well as competitors it also attracts large crowds to cheer everyone on and really showcases the fantastic community spirit we have here,” she added. Swimmers will be giving a helping hand to a number of good causes through their efforts - not least the three chosen by TSSA, which are St John Cymru, The Harriet Davis Trust and Splash Out 2014. Swimmers, who can also collect for their own charities and good causes, are rewarded with commemorative medals presented around a warming bonfire. The day’s fun also includes the Daitanic Raft Race, in memory of Dai Rees of Saundersfoot, who loved taking part in the race in its heyday, and is for two-person crews on a craft constructed from just two barrels and some rope. The event’s other sponsors are FBM Holidays, Lewis, Lewis and Co. Ltd and Princes Gate Water. · The Tenby Boxing Day Swim takes place on the North Beach, with the Daitanic Raft Race launching at 11am and swimmers taking the plunge at 11.30am.
