THEME: THE ETERNAL SIN Reading: Matthew 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. The question is which sin cannot be forgiven, ever? And, how do I avoid it? From the words of our LORD Jesus Christ, there is only one, Blasphemy (talking against) against the Holy Spirit. The twist is, if you are already avoiding it, you cannot commit it!! Let me break this down: What is BLASPHEMY? According to dictionary it is the act of speaking sacrilegiously against a deity, holy person or a holy thing. In other simpler words, Blasphemy is the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for God, and or things that involve God and godliness. I want you to note that you cannot fall onto this accidentally. That is why I said, if you are already avoiding it, its most likely youll never commit it! Blasphemy is an outright defiance of God and godliness. It is not something you do without knowing! For example, a Christian cannot blaspheme against Allah, a Muslim cannot blaspheme against Buddha, or a Buddhist against the Holy Spirit. It is only a person who knows exactly what the Holy Spirit does can blaspheme against the Holy Spirit. Now, Jesus said any other blasphemy can be forgiven let me show you why. God the Father worked from outside man. In the Old Testament, God was in Heaven and man on earth! Hence it was easy to speak against the words of say a prophet and say, That is not God speaking. Because only a few (mostly prophets) new when God was speaking and when a demon was speaking. Hence you could be forgiven for going and inciting people against a prophet or a Prophets word. A very good example was Ahithophel, the Bible says he was so powerful a Prophet that whenever he spoke it was as if God himself had spoken. But when Absalom (Davids son), decided to overthrow his fathers government, and the great Prophet joined him instead of David, David who was a Prophet could not speak against him because he knew how the spirit of prophecy works (remember you can only blaspheme against wharf you subscribe to). Hence, instead David prayed, That oh God, make Ahithophels word be foolishness to the hearers! When Ahithophel prophesied, he prophesied the right thing! But one of the soldiers said, No! That prophesy is not right. Ahithophel committed suicide and Absalom was defeated. See, David did not blaspheme and the soldier did not blaspheme. Lets come to Jesus, He walked with people, like any other human being. Hence, anything He said could be contested and spoken against. Just like you can contest and speak against any word I say. Thats why He said, You can speak against me and be forgiven. Why? Because, note that Jesus as the Son of Man, still works from outside if you just like God the Father. The only difference between the dispensation of God the Father and God the Son, is that the first instance is God over us; the God of everybody, the second dispensation is God with us - Emmanuel. If you blaspheme against this two dispensation, you can be forgiven. Because even if you subscribe to them, they still work from outside you not within you. But the moment you subscribe to the third dispensation; of God in us, the dispensation of the Holy Spirit, He only works from WITHIN YOU! Blaspheme against the Holy Spirit is an outright defiance against the Holy Spirit. It cannot be forgiven forever because, blasphemy is not something you flip-flop about. It is a permanent decision to go against, it is a permanent decision to preach against something you first believed in. Like atheism, most atheists are people who first believed in God then defected. Atheism is forgivable because, even if you believed in God, he wasnt yet working from within you. Hence, your doubts in Him are forgivable. But Paul says to the Hebrews, If you taste of this (the Holy Spirit dispensation) and go back against it, you cannot be forgiven! Because doing so is like taking Jesus and nailing Him back on the cross! (Heb 6:4). Because, it is the Spirit of God that convinces us of our sins and pulls as back to repentance. Now, if you severe the relationship, how will you be convinced to know you have sinned and the need to repent, that leads to repentance. I hope to teach a video message soon on this, because Im out of space to type here. Hope those who are thirsty for more will grab a copy. Just remember, you cannot blaspheme accidentally, you cannot blaspheme against a believe you dont subscribe to, and as long as what you subscribe to works from the outside of you and not from within you, your blasphemy can still be forgiven of you... If you are convinced of your sin and repent. But those who subscribe to the Holy Spirit, blasphemy against Him affects the ability to discern sin and move towards repentance, which translates to : YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGIVEN! Why? Youll never know you sinned, hence youll never repent! Shalom and keep the faith.
