THERE HAS TO BE SOME GOOD NEWS. Revenue up at Trewithen Dairy following £11.4m expansion Revenue has risen by more than 20 per cent at Trewithen Dairy after the company finished work on an £11.4m expansion of its processing site. The completion of its Milky Way project will allow it to increase its milk processing and add to the 130 staff at its base in Lostwithiel, Cornwall. It now has the capacity to process 250,000 litres of milk per day, equivalent to 75 million litres per annum, and plans to create another 40 jobs. The latest accounts for Cornish Farm Dairy Ltd, which trades as Trewithen Dairy, showed that sales for the 12 months to 30 April 2014 were £31.7m, up from £25.9m a year earlier. Pre-tax profits fell to £145,637 from £806,058, reflecting the completion of the expansion project. A spokesman for the company told Insider: As a result the business rapid growth over the last few years, it has undertaken a £11.4m redevelopment project to expand the processing site and create over 40 additional jobs. The company now sources from 27 farms, all situated within 25 miles of the dairy. Trewithen is staunch in its commitment to using local service companies for all of its work. It will only ever use a non-Cornish provider if there are absolutely no other options available within the county. Trewithen added that it had also invested in new product development during the year, with a new spreadable butter and two new flavoured yoghurts. The company is the third largest direct milk buyer in Cornwall and produces a range of milk, butter, clotted cream and yoghurt. In 2014 it celebrated its 20th anniversary.
