THERE IS NO CURFEW IN OPOBO TOWN The Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Council, Warisenibo (Hon.) Maclean Bethel Uranta has debunked rumours that the intense security checks by security operatives in the area, has become curfew imposed in the ancient city. Warisenibo Uranta assured that the council will continue to do all within the ambit of the law to see that criminality no longer thrive in the area. He called on the people to give the security operatives the needed support and co-operation. The council chairman, while addressing worshippers in the different churches in Opobo Town on the true security situation, explained that people are free to go about their normal businesses at all times but added that those seen late in the night in the streets will be interrogated by the security operatives. Warisenibo Uranta warned that in the course of security, check those found with arms and any incriminating objects will not only be arrested and prosecuted but the council will make sure that they are imprisoned so as to rid the community of criminal elements. He announced that the security steps taken so far came in the heels of recent reports of different forms of criminal activities which are resurfacing in the community. The Council Chairman used the medium to re-emphasize the need to observe the monthly sanitation exercise in the area, warning that from the first week of September sanitation defaulters will be arrested and made to pay heavy fine. Commending the effort of the Executive Chairman and his team, the vicar of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Opobo Town, Ven. Wisdom Edighotu, commended the council boss for coming personally to enlighten the people and noted that the decision of the council is a welcome development since security and cleanliness are matters that concern all.
