THERE WAS NEVER IN INDIA A NATIONAL IDEAL OF POVERTY AND SQUALOR.....Spiritual life finds full scope only when there is a certain degree of freedom from sordidness. Lives that are strained and starved cannot be religious except in a rudimentary way. Economic insecurity and individual freedom do not go together..... hence we had the fourfold object of life, purushartha - kama, artha, dharma, moksha. .
