THESE FREEZING DAYS In Sheikh Zayed, it is even chillier than the rest of Cairo. The bitter cold is not exactly depressing. Rather, MELANCHOLIC. Associated with sober thoughtfulness; pensiveness. Not really wanting to go out, but also not wanting to stay indoors, I bundled up, took a chair outside the main door (the most sheltered part of the house) with the wind blowing all around. And sat....And sat.....And somehow, I COULDNT GO BACK IN. A bitter sweet experience: ..... The wild winds coldly blow; But a tyrant spell has bound me And I cannot, cannot go. The giant trees are bending ....... And the storm is fast descending, And yet I cannot go. Emily Jane Bronte And in regularly recurring succession, THE WIND WOULD BLOW : ........A wind with a wolfs head Howled about our door, Edna St. Vincent Millay AND THEN, in spite of the bitter cold, WOULD SUDDENLY FALL STILL: Tis calm indeed !! so calm, that it disturbs .................with its strange And extreme silentness. Samuel Taylor Coleridge All around TREES THAT ARE ALMOST BARE: When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang Upon those boughs which shake against the cold, William Shakespeare But one can feel that, although the trees are sleeping in the bitter cold, THEY ARE STILL VERY MUCH ALIVE : You think I am dead, The apple tree said, Because I have never a leaf to show – Because I stoop, And my branches droop,.....,...., But Im still alive in trunk and shoot Edith M. Thomas And in spite of the harsh weather, I look around and see some hardy flowers that refuse to die. Wonderful morning. Please forgive the romanticizing !! 😄😄 Alia T. Minaissy, because I know you feel the same way Shereen Salem. Sherif Osman I know its much colder where you are, but even in Cairo we sometimes feel the cold, so dont laugh !! 😄
