THEY ARE ASKING: “Why did you drop the title POET?” Some - TopicsExpress

THEY ARE ASKING: “Why did you drop the title POET?” Some wanted to know if everything was fine. Some said the name now look rather odd (that they cannot even match it with the Ridwan (poet) they knew.) Some wished I would return the thing. And some are just indifferent. *Yes, I’m fine and everything seems pretty fair over here. As humans, we are bound to experience change. We cannot but move from one state to another. For me, Humans are transient beings (i.e We transit from a form to another with respect to time). Therefore, If it appears odd today, tomorrow it won’t. All you need do is getting yourself acquainted to it. But, if you insist that it be reversed, then only time and God alone can help with that. *Let me help you understand some basic things. When I added it then in those very youthful times, I had good intentions. I was then like a child who wished to grow to be a Doctor, Lawyer, Pilot, President… And so, he begins to call himself by that which he hoped to become in future. *You see…* My intentions were pure in those days; I wanted to be conscious of what leaves the shores of the poet. To be mindful of whatever I will be posting in order not to rubbish the TITLE. My intentions were as good as gold. They were as pure as it magma. I wanted it to serve as a personal challenge in bettering my skill and pushing my zeal for constancy. A serious poet would not want to be questioned on matters around Literature but never to at least provide useful and reliable answers. My intentions were presentable; I wanted a community of wise folks, I never wanted to play away my time online. Chatting unnecessarily on frivolities instead, I wanted an environment where Faith and moderate Fun could live. *Yesssss… I wanted all that and many others.* I wanted to share my little knowledge with the world –the very little knowledge I had gathered all through my years of omnivorous reading. I wanted to motivate my people and to write on the heart of men. I wanted to write to condemn VICE while I praise VIRTUES. I wanted to contribute to history that the little me may live years and years after my death. I simply had good intentions. *But now…* I write less poems (other things now steals me away). So many things now share my leisures. It is now about either being here or there. If one can no longer deliver on a cause, I feel it’s advisable to step-down. A government that can no longer cater for it masses should drop the baton, a poet that can no longer write should be called and referred to by his names. Perhaps, if I can gather momentum and be relevant once again then and only then should I pick the title POET. #my_reason ADELAJA RIDWAN OLAYIWOLA (Formerly Poet Adelaja Ridwan Olyrid)
