THEY were trying to intimidate Nehemiah and discourage him from rebuilding the walls. He was the target of their gossip and rumors (see Neh. 6:6). But Nehemiahs response made all the difference. He simply said, Such things as you are saying have not been done. Then he put it in proper perspective: You are inventing them in your own mind (v. 8). WHENEVER you decide to do anything of significance, rest assured the haters will arise. Nevertheless, you must keep your focus. Sometimes we beat ourselves up unnecessarily when were the target of gossip. But like Nehemiah, you have walls to rebuild. You have a mandate to execute. Pick your battles. For some, you just got to tell them straight to their face: You are inventing these lies in your own mind and keep building. Lives are waiting! Leading Edge
