THINKING OF APPLYING FOR AN MFA OR KNOW AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT WHO IS? PASS IT ON: WUSTL just announced that theyre launching a pilot program (the first of its kind in the US ) aimed at international writers interested in combining an MFA-ish experience with a Comparative lit PhD, fully funded at Wash U levels (so around $20k+) for 4 1/2 years. To quote the flyer we all got, This Ph.D. would be tailored for promising international writers and public intellectuals who wish to enhance their careers by coupling it with academic training in comparatist literary studies in the US. We aim to recruit candidates who would benefit from pursuing such studies in a context where they can simultaneously work on their writing, make literary contacts, and themselves translate and/or work with fellow graduate students to have translated some of their work into English. The faculty member who sent this out invited prospective applicants to contact her directly--her names Lynne Tatlock at her email is [email protected] the head of the MFA program says hell be involved too.
