THINKING OUT LOUD ON FACEBOOK I guss I am getting old because I can remember when power windows was an option on cars and every new car came with two keys, one to start the car and one for the doors and trunk. Heck, I even remember when air-conditioning was an option and when the under dash drop down add on air-conditioners first came out and became a popular after market item for people with money. Back in those days we never really worried about having our car stolen and we never really bothered to roll up the windows, because most of us did not have air-conditions and we lost the second key. Yep, back in the day we hardly ever locked the car and car jacking was not yet a phrase and although cars were stolen, it was generally in another neighborhood not yours. Back in those days, we did not have car seats for our kids. Heck, I can remember riding from NJ to Florida standing between my parents in the front seat of my dads 1954 Ford as a child. This is totally illegal today. Today, all that has changed. Most all cars come equipped with air and power windows and car jacking is now a common phrase and people experience car jackings or hear about them on the evening news and now fear being car jacked regardless of the neighborhood you live in or travel in. Worse- today people are leaving their children locked in cars strapped in the car seat in over 100 degree temperatures for no logical reason. When asked, they claim they forgot their child was in the car seat or they thought they dropped them off at school. Hells Bells - Dont they talk to their child when they are driving? Dont they see the child in the rear view when they are driving? There have been 13 deaths from children being locked and left in cars and 3 of the 13 are in Florida where I live. Today, a new law makes it legal for someone to smash a window to save a child left in a parked car. The person cant be held liable for saving the life and breaking the window. My Mom always said, if you live long enough you will see everything. Do me a favor, when you are driving and if you have a child in the car in a car seat, look at the child in the rear view and talk to your child. You might learn something from him or her or better yet, you might take the time alone and teach them something. Live Life & Travel and if you are in a car with your kids, dont forget to count heads at the rest stop before pulling out in traffic. RIDING TALL - I remember the movie Walking Tall and today I am Driving Tall with a big stick, or in my case rock. Im old, Im retired living on Social Security, and I am on patrol with a big rock ready to break the windows of any car I see with either a child or animal locked in. Remember if the outside temperature is over 80, the inside temp could be over 100. My excuse, I am just making the best out of my retirement years.
