THIRD FRONT TAKES SHAPE Tarigami, Hakim, Kabuli, Sheikh,Tukru join hands With the Assembly elections nearing in Jammu and Kashmir, formation of the much-talked about ‘Third Front’ now seems a matter of days. On Thursday, a group of politicians including two sitting legislators termed their combine as a “developing Third Front”, indicating arrival of a new political formation on the scene. The developing ‘Third Front’, according to a handout, comprises of Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami - State Secretary CPI (M), Hakim Muhammad Yasin - Chairman PDF, Abdul Rashid Kabuli - Chairman JKNDF, Sheikh Abdul Rehman - State President Samajwadi Party and Abdul Rehman Tukru - State Secretary CPI. The proposed Front is set to create ripples in political circles in JK as such formation would further dent prospects of the both ruling National Conference (NC) and opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) particularly in Kashmir. “Both the parties wouldn’t like to see rise of any such political alternative as it would lead to further split of votes in Kashmir region,” a senior political analyst said. When contacted, Tarigami told Greater Kashmir: “We have been talking together and we will also talk together in future.” Tarigami further said they are in touch with more people to have collective view on general issues. “I cannot further comment on the matter,” he said. Chairman PDF, Hakim Muhammad Yasin hinted at formation of the Third Front. “It is high time for like-minded people to join hands and have a common view on vital issues affecting general public,” he said, adding they are on the job of roping in more like-minded persons. Independent legislator Er Rashid who recently floated Awami–Ittehad party refused to comment on the matter. Minister for Agriculture and chairman Democratic Party Nationalist Ghulam Hassan Mir, who fielded candidates in several constituencies during 2008 Assembly elections in the State expressed ignorance about the development. “I don’t know anything about it,” he said. Estranged National Conference leader and Member Parliament GN Ratanpuri said that he is still part of NC. “This question can arise only after I will leave the party,” he said, when asked whether he would be a part of the Front. The move comes in the backdrop of signals emanating from New Delhi that senior Congress leader and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad is getting ready to play fresh proactive political innings in JK.
