THIRD WORLD WEATHER COMES TO U.S. In "Topic of Chaos," Christian Parenti surveyed weather patterns across the tropics and demonstrated how drought or flood conditions had decimated crops yields throughout the third world. This has lead to massive displacement of people, and consequent civil war and starvation. Parenti attributed the weather extremes to global warming explaining how previously productive farmlands with regular rainfall were being laid to waste by the new, irregular weather cycles. Today, the NYTimes reports the same cycles are now appearing in the American Mid-West - the one-time "bread basket" of the world. Time to head to Canada!?
