THIS CLINIC IS THIS SATURDAY, 8:45-10:15 AM at our Facility. It can also act as a solid workout for those not wanting to learn how to heart rate train. Stop BLINDLY trying to train your way to a personal record on the bike leg of your next triathlon, criterium, or century race and join us to determine your personal training zones. As a triathlete or cyclist, you need accurate physiological data to plan, execute, and monitor your training sessions. After all, you wouldn’t begin a resistance training program without an idea of the types of exercises, the amount of resistance, how much volume, and the work-to-rest ratios you plan to utilize. In terms of your cycling goals, this is where lactate threshold (aka anaerobic threshold) comes into play. Lactate threshold is the best predictor of endurance performance; simply no other measure correlates as well with race performance and tells how well training has been working. Think of lactate threshold as the point at which your body can no longer run on just oxygen and you start to tap into your glycogen reserves. Once lactic acid accumulates in your blood stream faster than your body can flush it out, you start to go anaerobic. With the aid of a power meter or heart rate monitor, we can conduct a field test to determine a number that corresponds to your specific lactate threshold and gives us a functional threshold power (FTP) or functional threshold heart rate (FTHR) number. We will use this number to determine your training zones, which you or your coach can use to tailor your training program to your exact fitness level. Heres the really good news: you can improve your lactate threshold and thus, your race performance over time! Assuming youre putting in the requisite saddle time, youll want to re-test for your FTP or FTHR approximately every 6-10 weeks. 360Strong will provide this field test periodically to meet that need. These field tests are not for the faint hearted.
