THIS DATE IN COMETS HISTORY JUNE 30 1954 Emilio Romero was born in Denver. You can never have enough Emilios on your team, so Romero, a forward, joined Emilio John on the Comets during the ill-fated 1981-82 season after starring with the St. Louis Steamers. He only played in 17 matches in KC, scoring 5 goals and 5 assists. Romero also had the distinction of playing for three different MISL expansion clubs during their inaugural seasons--the Comets in 81-82, the Steamers in 79-80 and the Los Angeles Lazers in 1982-83. 1989--St. Louis gained tentative permission from MISL commissioner Earl Foreman to rejoin the league for the 89-90 season. Electronics mogul Milan Mandaric from San Jose would own the new team. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lazers officially ceased operations--they just didnt bother to tell anyone. I dont think their attendance for their entire existence even added up to the 1983-84 Comets season.
