Geils Band, keyboards and vocals) was born 1956: RCA Records released Heartbreak Hotel, by Elvis Presley, shortly after securing Presleys contract from Sun Records for $35,000 -- the records sold 300,000 copies in the first week and eventually becomes Elvis first gold record 1962: Peppermint Twist, Part 1 begins a three week run at #1 on the US singles charts for Joey Dee & The Starlighters -- it only reached #33 in the UK 1971: David Bowie wore a dress at his first promotional event in the US
