Johnny Bench had homered, but left game after 8 innings, as it became a blowout...so Bill Plummer pinch hit for Bench in top of 9th and struck out, called looking, and Plummer quickly became part of a heated argument with the home plate umpire, who tossed him, without him ever taking the field on defense! ..who would catch?
