THIS DAY IN ARKANSAS WEATHER HISTORY... 1840-Heavy rain fell at Little Rock. 1879-The temperature fell to 4 degrees at Little Rock. 1884-Bitter cold gripped the state, with Many lows in the single digits or below zero. In Little Rock, the low was 6 degrees. However, in different parts of the city, temperatures were as cold as -3. 1946-A tornado touched down in Chicot County, killing three. 1970-One to three inches of snow fell in most of the State. Totals in the northwest were heavier, with 11.0 inches at Huntsville, Harrison, and Omaha, and nine inches at Marshall. 1979-A major ice storm occurred statewide with extensive damage to timber and chicken houses. 1988-Heavy snow fell over the entire state, with 10 to 15 inches common across central sections, and 12 to 13 inches in the Little Rock area alone. 2014-Through the 7th, very cold air moved into the state, and as a result, temperatures at many locations were the coldest in several decades. Lows on the morning of the 7th ranged from below zero in portions of the north to single digits in the central and western portions.
