THIS DAY IN ARKANSAS WEATHER HISTORY... 1861-Snow fell at Little Rock, and was still on the ground three days later. 1926-Lows were below zero in the northwest and north central portion, and teens below zero in the northwest. Harrison fell to -17. 1930-Lows in most areas were again in the single digits in the central and south, and below zero in the west and north. Lead Hill fell to -22 degrees. 1940-One to four inches of snow fell in most of the state. The highest totals were in the south, with six inches at Portland, and five inches at Crossett and Texarkana. 1943-During a winter heat wave, high temperatures in much of the state were in the mid 70s to mid 80s. Crossett and Mount Ida both reached 87. 1979-Three to six inches of snow fell in the northwest. 1993-Several severe thunderstorms occurred across the south. 2002-Severe thunderstorms developed ahead of a cold front, and produced wind damage and hail across northern Arkansas. 2003-Lows were mostly in the single digits in the north.
