THIS DAY IN ARKANSAS WEATHER HISTORY... June 4 1989-A few minor tornadoes touched down in the east. 1993-A small tornado touched down from McDougal to St. Francis. 1998-Severe thunderstorms moved across the state with several minor tornadoes in Polk, Pulaski, and Lonoke counties. 2011-Monticello recorded the earliest 100 degree day on record. June 5 1871-Remnants of a hurricane passed over Arkansas. 1916-A massive tornado outbreak, one of the largest on record in the state, occurred. There were 34 reports of tornadoes, with 87 fatalities. Heber Springs was the hardest hit, with 20 dead. 1974-Flash flooding occurred in Johnson County. 1989-Severe thunderstorms occurred in the Little Rock area with damage at WSFO Little Rock, where winds gusted to 59 MPH. June 6 1974-A tornado touched down at Forrest City, killing four. 1977-Most highs around the state were near 100 degrees. Little Rock recorded its earliest 100 degree temperature. 2005-Nearly two inches of rain fell at Little Rock. June 7 1877-Over 12 inches of rain fell at Helena through the 8th. 1917-A tornado touched down in Crawford County near Uniontown, killing two. 1931-Numerous severe thunderstorms produced hail, especially in the Imboden area. 1989-Flash flooding occurred at Gould. 1994-A derecho moved across the state with widespread wind damage, especially at Quitman and in the Little Rock area. June 8 1951-Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain occurred across the state. 1974-Eight to 10 inches of rain fell in most central and southwest sections. Flash flooding occurred after 12 inches of rain fell at El Dorado and nine inches of rain fell at Siloam Springs. 1995-A tornado touched down from Washington County to the St. Paul area.
