THIS DEPICTS THE POLICE MENTALITY THAT HAS RESULTED IN THE UNJUSTIFIED MURDER OF COUNTLESS YOUNG, BLACK, UNARMED, MEN AND KIDS, WHO POSED NO LETHAL THREAT AND HAD EITHER COMMITTED VERY MINOR CRIMES OR NO CRIMES AT ALL. UNFORTUNATELY THIS KIND OF POLICE MISCONDUCT HAS NOW RESULTED IN THE KILLING OF SOME COPS. DOES THIS REALLY SURPRISE YOU? From Chris Hayes interview with Jeffrey Follmer, President of the Cleveland Police Patrolman’s Association on MSNBC: The interview with Follmer starts at the 3min mark: msnbc/all-in/watch/police-union-chief-tamir-rice-killing-justified-373082691506 At the conclusion of the interview (skip way on over to the 7m45s mark), Hayes asked Follmer, What do you think about peoples concerns when people are being killed by police officers when there is less than a lethal threat being posed? Follmar gave this astonishing reply: How about this? Listen to police officers’ commands; listen to what we tell us/tell you, and just stop. I think that eliminates a lot of problems. I have kids too. They know how to respect the law; they know what to do when a police officer comes up to you. We think the nation needs to know that when we tell you to do something, do it. And if you’re wrong, you’re wrong and if you’re right the courts will figure it out. That was an example of the threat that is always implied in the argument that if you have done nothing wrong; you have nothing to fear (from the police or security state). That threat is, Even if youve done nothing wrong, you need to act submissively to authorities; otherwise, whatever they do to you will be deemed your fault. In other words, submit. Always. Submit. Do what we tell you. Always. Dont talk back. Dont protect your dignity or your liberty. Dont defend yourself against police violence. Dont attempt to defend your spouse or your children. Heres the truth: Americans are NOT required to do whatever a cop says; Americans are NOT the subjects of the State. Americans do not accept that claim. You carry a cellphone, right? Learn how to use the camera. Be prepared to record any and every encounter you have with police; but especially if youve done absolutely nothing wrong. Record everything; that is your right. And it is also your right to say nothing at all to the police, if thats your choice. ___
