THIS IS 1987 - 1992 IS STILL IN THE FUTURE. I AM A PTI VOTER - - TopicsExpress

THIS IS 1987 - 1992 IS STILL IN THE FUTURE. I AM A PTI VOTER - ONE OF 7.2 MILLION WHO VOTED AND MANY MORE WHO WERE DENIED THEIR RIGHTS IN MAY 2013 - AND I THINK IT IS TIME FOR IMRAN KHAN TO PACK UP FROM THE CONSTITUTION AVENUE AND LEAVE. I say this despite the fact that Imran Khan may have a few more tricks up his sleeve and his call for dharnas across the country could further prolong this for a few more days. I believe that PTI has done an unprecedented protest in the countrys history (at least my living memory) bringing attention to the rights of those who have no rights and to the excesses and arrogance of the ruling elite. Clearly, all the remaining parties - 11 of them - have banded together to save democracy (i.e. the status-quo of lack of transparency, respect for law and constitution, nepotism, and institutionalised corruption) in this country. The conduct of all political parties - at varying times - only strengthens the cause for which Imran Khan is braving the elements and the criticism of so many for the last so many months. I know Imran Khan has put everything - including the partys future - at stake but it is absolutely critical that PTIs leadership - including Imran Khan - understand that PTI must survive this episode as the only non-status-quo party in the country and remain to fight another day. THE RECENT CONCESSIONS MADE BY PTI LEADERSHIP REGARDING TEMPORARY LEAVE FOR THE PM AMOUNT TO TOTAL CAPITULATION OF ALL PTI DEMANDS. I do not believe this country can deliver any justice at all to anybody but the powerful or the wealthy. Take any example from our countrys glorious judicial history or its current past, and no commission - judicial or otherwise - has ever delivered any verdict of any significance in this countrys history and worse still no sitting government has ever published or implemented the report of any commission - judicial or otherwise - whether it was Hamood-ur-Rahman, or Ojri Camp, or Memogate, or Benazir Assassination. Whether it is a high profile case against the Sharifs or the likes of Arsalan Iftikhar or smaller cases in lower courts, justice has neither been done nor seen to have been done. So, I have no hope that the judicial commission being set up will render a unbiased judgement nor, if it somehow manages to do so, will its judgement be ever implemented. WHAT COULD IMRAN KHAN DO? I think it is useless to set up this judicial commission under the terms of reference dictated by the Government. I think there will be time for a revolution but this is not it. This system does need a drastic overhaul if it must work for the common man but this parliament and the current status-quo political parties will not deliver or accede to this. Imran Khan would need to garner at least 10x greater support to bring down this system of exploitation and sham democracy and replace it with true democracy that works for the common man. For that, Imran Khan must learn from this example and prepare for another day. I BELIEVE THE JUDICIAL COMMISSION BEING SET UP IS AN EXERCISE IN FUTILITY. I think PTI should reject the judicial commission altogether, retain its government in KPK (if it can) and focus on making that province the kind of model everyone wanted it to be, it must push for electoral reforms from inside or outside of the Parliament, and continue to maintain its moral high ground from having been denied its due electoral mandate due to massive rigging. Let PMLN be condemned to rule for another 3.5 years as a result of a rigged election rather than giving them the opportunity to dignify their rule by clearing the allegations of rigging against their name. The Pakistani voter may, in due course, learn to appreciate PTIs principled demands - many political parties already do but are too afraid to lend support for the fear of spoiling the party. Any other course of action at this time would only weaken PTI and undermine its principled position. THE BATTLE FOR CONSTITUTION AND DEMOCRACY MAY BE OVER, BUT THE WAR HAS JUST BEGUN. IMRAN KHAN (AND PTI) MUST UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS THE 1987 WORLDCUP AND WHILE IT MAY TRULY HURT, AS IT DID THEN, TO CONCEDE THAT YOUVE COME UP SHORT OF YOUR OWN EXPECTATIONS, YOU MUST SURVIVE AND PREPARE FOR A BIGGER FIGHT. 1992 IS STILL IN THE FUTURE.
