THIS IS A REMINDER MESSAGE. TIME IS RUNNING OUT. ALL FUNDS HAVE TO BE PROCESSED BY THURSDAY IN ORDER TO BE COUNTED ON FRIDAY. THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT. THE ORIGINAL STORY ... In all sincerity, this is a first for me. Coming back from an extended business trip, rushing to prepare for my Sunday school class with 10-12 year olds, and slipping back into the church sanctuary Sunday morning after the lesson was done, I found myself in the middle of a major decision regarding the upcoming youth crusade. I had been nominated to stand for the girls during the event. If we do not raise more money than the boys .. I GET A PIE IN THE FACE!!! Right here in front of the entire church the pastor calls me out and tells me, if I will agree to participate and help out the girls, HE will stand for the boys. My heart sank. I was all nervous. That sudden dread came over me like a sweeping wind. If only I had stayed in the back a few more minutes helping clean up after the children left I would have missed this awkward moment. As I tried to come up with reasons I was not a good choice, the congregation started to chant my name ... OH NO ... I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO AGREE TO DO IT! Each year our church youth hosts a week long crusade to help the kids raise money for youth camp, class supplies, and the various outings we plan for the kids in our church throughout the year. This is our BIG fundraiser for the kids. More importantly, it is a fun filled week of nightly adventure, games and a roller coaster of bible based activities and challenges helping teach basic bible principals to our kids. Boys and girls compete all week and each night a winner is determined in two categories. The first category is the actual winners of the various games. The second category is the team that raised the most money. Ultimately the grand prize at the end of the week is that the winning team who collectively raised the most money from the entire week gets to have a pie thrown into the face of the person standing up for the loosing team. IE: "yours truly" for the girls ... and the "Pastor" for the boys this year. I am beside myself over this crazy pie. I do not even like to swim because of the water in my face. I have a real issue with things like this and the only way to avoid catastrophe is to help raise enough money to protect my team. The men of our church typically raise far more money than the women. The odds of the girls winning is not good without the help of many friends. It is truly a good cause. Investing in our children will never go unnoticed or unappreciated.
