THIS IS AN INDICATION OF APCS DEMOCRATIC CREDENTIALS Journalists were on Tuesday prevented from covering the rerun of primary election for the All Progressives Congress’ candidate in Osun East Senatorial District. The rerun primary election was held at the Temsed International Civic Centre in Ijebu-Jesa. Journalists had initially been allowed into the venue of the election after much resistance from the stern looking security operatives at the venue. A former Assistant Chief of Staff to Osun State Governor, Mr. Gbenga Akano, said that the party had decided that they would not allow journalists to cover the poll. The Director of Publicity, Reserach and Strategy of the APC in Osun State, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, who addressed journalists at the entrance of the venue said that 3,000 delegates had converged at the venue to vote to elect the candidate in the senatorial district. The incumbent senator representing the zone, Babajide Omoworare and Mr. Sola Lawal, who is also an aspirant in the district had been at loggerheads over who won the primary poll. Lawal had claimed that he defeated Omoworare by polling 17 votes out of 23 to defeat the serving senator who he said scored three votes. However, the party announced Omoworare as the winner of the primaries but Lawal filed aggrieved petitions to the National Appeal Committee of the party. Lawal had prayed the party to reject the candidacy of Omoworare in his petition, claiming that his victory was upturned by Governor Rauf Aregbesola because of his alleged bias for Omoworare.
