THIS IS GONNA BE ABOUT AS 100 AS I CAN GET ABOUT THE RAY RICE - TopicsExpress

THIS IS GONNA BE ABOUT AS 100 AS I CAN GET ABOUT THE RAY RICE SITUATION: Ive had some time to think about all this and the fact of the matter here is, it was a Black woman that was a victim. A Black woman. Had it been a White woman, Ray wouldnt have even gotten THIS far. He wouldve been suspended for either half the season or an entire season. The reason the outrage wasnt there is because it was a Black woman. Hell, even some of our Black men have said shit like, She shouldnt have provoked him and stuff like that. Which tells me, we as Black men have aided in the issue. Also, SOME Black women have agreed with some of those Black men. Thats how twisted this shit has now gotten. That attack wasnt a result in her role. Sadly, even janay places blame on herself. But heres the thing...as long as we keep putting out songs that demean Black women, all that does is add to this prevailing view of Black women. Am I blaming JUST Hip-Hop as being the sole problem? No. But it certainly doesnt help. We are seeing some of the results from Hip Hops negative-side far-reaching influence thats been going on for decades now. And Im no saint. My soapbox is crooked and shaky, no doubt. Hell, I have to check my damn self on some of the parts I play in it all. But to hear people like Deion Sanders and others say Ray shouldnt have gotten his job taken away (its how he makes money, but its also a privilige to play football) because itll just make it harder for him and he also said the NFL needs to keep him around football so he can get the help he needs. Thats not the NFLs responsibility. Thats RAYS responsibility. Its that exact reasoning by Deion that enables these athletes to feel they can do what they want, because society puts them on pedestals. All that Deion was saying made me REALLY think about whats going on here -- the lack of respect of Black women. I mean, in some peoples eyes its MORE important for this dude to PLAY FOOTBALL than for this BLACK WOMAN to RECEIVE JUSTICE. Thats the cold, hard truth, yall. Some of us brothas have gotten SO caught-up with the way a Black man is treated in America, that we forgot about how America -- and some Black men -- treat Black women. Look, Im not saying Ray Rice should never play football again, but the punishment hes receiving is what he was SUPPOSED to have gotten when all this shit came out...But since it was a Black woman...nobody really tripped. Thats the real.
