THIS IS OUR MUSIC: ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN – “Bring on The Dancing Horses” . “Bring on the Dancing Horses” was originally released as a U.K.-only single in late 1985, appearing in the States as the final track on the career-spanning singles anthology Songs to Learn & Sing. It somewhat belatedly became the band’s American breakthrough when it appeared on the best-selling soundtrack to Pretty in Pink, an alternative rock primer for an entire generation of sullen suburban teenagers. Where the band’s previous album, Ocean Rain, had been a crystalline mix of post-punk tunes and lush orchestral arrangements, “Bring on the Dancing Horses” introduced a new sound for Echo & the Bunnymen. The song is heavy on the reverb to positively Cocteau Twins levels, and for the first time, the sonic focus is less on Will Sergeant’s overdubbed guitar lines and more on the layers of synths that eddy around Ian McCulloch’s vocals. Similarly, the choruses are sung by a small choir of overdubbed McCullochs, adding to the psychedelic haze of the track. Follow – > songssmiths.wordpress Like -> facebook/songssmithssongssmiths
