THIS IS TAKEN FROM DR MERCOLA The Unsuspected Price Tag of Convenience and Beauty Next, there are all those products you use in daily life. From your personal care products, to household cleaning agents, to plastic food containers and baby bottles… Many of them contain ingredients that are known to be toxic or cancer-causing. For more information about which ones you’ll definitely want to avoid, please review the articles listed under Related Articles below, as I’ve written quite extensively on these issues before. Something you may not have seen or heard before, however, is this list of the Top Cancer-Causing Products in the average home, as compiled by the National Cancer Prevention Coalition, which includes: Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder with talc Crest Tartar Control toothpaste VO5 Hair Conditioner Clairol Nice-n-Easy Hair Color Cover Girl Replenishing Natural Finish Make Up Ajax cleanser Lysol disinfectant Zud Heavy Duty Cleanser Women have been warned to immediately stop using talcum powder around their genitals, as new research suggests particles may travel to the ovaries and trigger a process of inflammation that allows cancer cells to flourish. Previous studies have raised concerns over talc, but the latest findings suggest that women who use it are 40 percent more likely to get ovarian cancer. Experts studied more than 3,000 women and found using talc merely once a week raised the risk of ovarian cancer by 36 percent. The danger rose to 41 percent for those applying powder every day. What Products Commonly Contain Talc? Talc is widely used in cosmetics as an anti-caking, bulking agent. The Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep database reports that it’s found in thousands of toiletries ranging from cosmetics (foundation, blush, lipstick, bronzers, concealer and facial powders) to antiperspirants and deodorants. Talc is also added to many foods as an anti-caking agent, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted it GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status. This means it need not be approved by the FDA prior to use in food. What types of food could chalk-like talk possibly be added to? More than you might think (this is only a partial list): • Breakfast cereals • Processed cheese, fruit and vegetables • Table-top sweeteners • Condiments (vinegar, mustard, sauces, seasonings) • Baked goods and candy • Sherbet and sorbet • Pudding and yogurt • Energy drinks • Processed rice products If you’re interested in avoiding talc, this is one more reason to become an avid label reader not only of your food but also your cosmetics. Look for talc, talcum, French chalk, talcum powder or (MG3H2 (SIO3 4) in the ingredients list. A Serious Warning about Nano-Technology in Cosmeceuticals Dr. Epstein has serious concerns about cosmetic products containing nano-particles, and that the facts about these technologies are being hidden and ignored. These ingredients are used in many different brands of cosmetics and cosmeceuticals, so I encourage you to use this information to evaluate ANY type of cosmetic you’re considering buying. Some of these nano-particles are so dangerous, in fact, they’re slowly but surely becoming known as “universal asbestos.” “There is no labeling of the warning at all of the dangers of these nanoparticles, instead they are touted as reducing wrinkling and firming up the skin surface,” he says. However, the use of nanoparticles in cosmeceuticals, whether they are sham cosmeceuticals or whether they’re bonafide cosmeceuticals, poses an extraordinarily dangerous and unrecognized public health hazards. Nanoparticles, because of their ultramicroscopic size, readily penetrate the skin, can invade underlying blood vessels, get into the general blood stream, and produce distant toxic effects. We already have evidence of this, including toxic effects in the brain, degenerative disorders in the brain, and nerve damage. So we’re dealing here with one of the most dangerous types of products in the whole cosmetic industry.
