THIS IS WHAT HARMS OUR INDUSTRY! This advert is currently on TradeMe jobs. It sings their own praises as a brand spanking new practice, state of the art equipment high quality dental treatments but then wants a Dental Assistant for $14 to $16 an hour! Seriously? Seriously? Basically this sort of thing screams one of the problems in our industry these days and that is the under-valuing of their assistants and receptionists and lack of genuine understanding of how critical these people are to a successful practice. The difference a really good DA/Chairside or Receptionist can make to the overall success and profitability of a practice is HUGE but many dentists/practices dont seem to get it and are always looking to pay the lowest possible rates to these critical team members! Clearly there are many practices who hold these key staff in higher regard and reward and respect them admirably and its no surprise to me that these are often the most successful and profitable ones! My clear message - bricks, mortar and shiny things are sometimes important but it is the skills, experience, personality, empathy, smile, touch, passion, commitment and plain old fashioned hard work of your DAs and Receptionists that have the most significant influence on the success or failure of your practice and you must always remember this and act accordingly!
