According to him, on 11.06.2014, he had been in Lords Exotic Supermarket, an African shop situated at Burggasse 113/1, 1070 Vienna, Austria when seven people (five men and two women) walked into the shop and demanded the identity cards of the people in the shop. He said he had queried them that if the shop had been an Austrian shop “like Billa” would they have gone in there and begin to ask the customers to produce their identity cards. They now demanded for his ID. In reaction to the demand, he said he had requested to know who they were since they were not in uniform. The people replied that they were police. And he invoked his legitimate right and requested to see their identity cards to ascertain their claims, which he said that they had refused and instead had told him to bring his own identity first. In trying to comply to their request he said he had stood up from his chair and dipped his hands in his pocket to bring out his ID but one of them had told him that it was too late and had grabbed him as others joined him. “I did not commit any crime by asking legitimate questions, but they handled me like a common criminal. And if they had held me for a few more moments I would have died, because I could not breath. They choked me that I was so scared. … I went to hospital to get treatment after my release from the police custody, because the pains around my neck were horrible. I was arrested around 3:30pm and was only release around 10 pm, Onuoha told Global Reporters Vienna (GRV). According to police report available to us, Onuoha was arrested at precisely 15:45 pm and release at exactly 21:55pm. Mr. Lawrence Onyemaechi, the director of Lords Exotic Supermarket, said, “I was inside my office when one of them came in and requested for my ID and when I came out I saw how they were manhandling the young man who was struggling in pains to breath. … My goods and properties worth around €9,000 were destroyed.” The authority of the Nigerian Embassy in Vienna, Austria has been informed. Meanwhile the police had charged Stephen Onuoha to court claiming that he injured them, Mr. Onyemaechi told GRV.
