THIS NEW GENERATIONS SUCKS! THE first episode of Generations The Legacy on Monday received a lot of negative responses on social media. But producer Mfundi Vundla was not fazed and told critics not to judge too quickly. Vundla encouraged viewers to wait until at least Friday before passing final judgement on the show. “People just need to chill and not be hasty,” he said. “You can’t judge a show after only 30 minutes. It’s too soon.” On Monday night, viewers of the SABC1 soapie took to Twitter, criticising the new show and its cast. Author and radio presenter Eusebius McKaiser tweeted: “The lesson of this Generations disappointment is not to take talent for granted!” Columnist Khaya Dlanga tweeted: “I move a motion without notice to officially recognise Generations as the soapie of the nation.” Former Generations actor Fana Mokoena wrote: “What’s with the new Generations? Everyone’s complaining.” Messages of support also poured in for the 16 fired actors. While some of the actors ignored the Twitter storm, others responded to the soapie’s premier by retweeting sour reactions. Nambitha Mpumlwana, who played businesswoman Mawande Memela, retweeted @Nosi02, who wrote: “ Generations was such a bore. “Never watching it again. You guys are missed!” Atandwa Kani, who played the role of Samora, retweeted @CeboLeKing, who wrote: “The quality of this new Generations is weak as f**k!” However, Vundla said the criticism was too soon and the first episode was only to introduce viewers to the new characters and plot. The soapie creator told media news that most of the responses he got about the show were positive. “The responses I value the most are those of my peers in the industry and they have said mostly good things.”
