THIS ONE HAS BEEN SENT IN BY BEVERLY OXFORD.... My husband and I moved from Liverpool a few years ago, and as he works as a Swing singer, we always take the opportunity to enquire at venues that have live music. In effect, we had to restart the busy singing business he had in Liverpool. We were in the Cathedral Quarter in Lincoln, and after introducing himself at the Duke William Hotel, he was booked for a gig the following week. Despite the short advertising time, the venue was full, and the Landlady had even put on a buffet. Soon, his dulcet tones, filled the hotel bar with the finest songs of Dean and Frank, and people were dancing all evening. I had put his cards only in the performance area, but despite this, they were found in the toilet and the small room where the buffet was. Not unusual, I know, but his cards were also stuck behind pictures and under the plates with food on. I stood with my back to the buffet room, watching the performance. My husband started singing, and I was suddenly aware of someone standing behind me, watching him, as if the singing had awakened someones attention, and they had come to see what it was. A couple of times, I heard laughing in the room behind me, but saw no one. I thought it had carried from somewhere else, but at the end of some of his songs, I clearly heard, cheering and clapping behind me, only about 2ft away, but no one in the room. My husband had left some equipment in the buffet room, and mid song, the battery in the microphone started to fade, so I whizzed into one of the boxes to get a new one. As I stood up from the box, I felt someone bash into me, and a nearby stool tipped backwards and would have hit the floor, if it hadnt hit the wall. It reminded me of when you bump into someone who was dancing, and they accidentally knock something over. At the end of the gig, and after we had packed up the sound things, I said the Bar Maid while my husband was getting changed, in the loo (how showbiz!)that I felt like he was being watched from the next door room. Probably! she said I dont doubt that. It can be quite a busy room. I told her that I didnt feel scared, just a bit unnerved. She agreed with that and said other people had said the same. It would seem the ethereal residents there, really enjoyed my husbands performance, and it was lovely that he was able to introduce them to The Rat Pack. Kind Regards. Beverly.
